A FRESH IDENTITY

The Little India MRT interchange station on the Downtown Line is designed around a flowing fabric theme inspired by the sari, a timeless cultural icon, firmly rooting the station in its context amid the Indian heritage enclave of Singapore. The design theme is also sympathetic to the geological history of the area, where a natural stream used to flow.

The structural design integrates complex new and existing infrastructure, linking the new subterranean station into an existing MRT station on the North-East Line, a relocated canal and a new underground highway.

In addressing environmental, social and economic sustainability concerns, frequent assessments were conducted to avoid land and water contamination; instrument gauges were deployed throughout the site and in adjacent buildings to ensure no vibration and acoustic pollution; and durable material was used to cater for a station design life lasting well into the future.
