Michael began his career in the office of IM Pei in New York, where he was involved in a number of significant projects such as The Mount Sinai Modernization in New York City, the Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC. In 1988 he worked with the Kohn Pedersen and Fox (KPF) office in New York on the design of The Bond Building in Sydney, subsequently moving to Australia to work on the construction phase.

Michael joined architects 61 in 1990 as an Associate and was made a Director when the practice was incorporated in 1994. Among his significant body of work, he was a Principal Designer for a number of award-winning buildings in Singapore, including the Lippo Building, which won the SIA Design Award in 1995, and Capital Square, which won the East Asia Marble Architectural Award for Urban Landscape in 1999 and an Urban Redevelopment Authority Architectural Heritage Award.

Michael has specific expertise in the design, design development and architectural/technical detailing of exterior cladding. He leads the practice overseas with projects in China, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Middle East.

He is registered as an architect in the US, Australia and Singapore. He was previously a member of the Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Architectural Design Panel and has been a member of the URA Design Advisory Panel since 2001.

Joseph joined architects 61 in 1987 and became a Director when the practice was incorporated in 1994. In the capacity of Project Director, he has overseen a breadth of projects including the Marina One mixed development, One Raffles Quay, Marina Bay Financial Centre Phase 2, Changi Airport Terminal 1 Upgrading and People’s Association HQ as well as high-end condominiums and retail malls.

Joseph also has substantial experience in master planning and the Mass Rapid Transit having completed the Sengkang Depot and Harbourfront Station on the North-East Line, Stage 2 of Downtown Line’s Little India and Rochor Stations, as well as master planning projects in India and the Great Grand Eastern Hotel in Kolkata.

As a Director, he oversees project management and programming, feasibility studies and building contract administration, as well as overall staff training and career development.

Active in the architectural community, Joseph has been a member of various boards and committees over the years, including the URA Development Control Committee and Design Waiver Committee, the Building and Construction Authority, and the Board of Architects (BOA), to name a few. He was the BOA Professional Practice Chief Examiner from 2000-2003 and has been a member of the BOA Investigation Committee since 1999. Joseph is also a registered Adjudicator with the Singapore Mediation Centre.

Mun Kit joined architects 61 as a recipient of the Board of Architects Singapore Gold Medal in 2002. Specialising in concept and detail design for complex and high-rise projects, he firmly believes in combining creative thinking and the collaborative process to address challenging design briefs that encapsulates clients’ aspirations and the needs of end-users. He advocates passive sustainable design as the key to solving building environmental issues, and the adoption of building technologies to address limitations of site, conflicting programmatic and building code requirements. At the heart of his profession is a human-centred architecture that primarily serves the needs of people and the community across various architectural typologies. 

Mun Kit’s work and that of his team have earned them numerous accolades from prestigious professional institutions, including the SIA Architectural Design Awards, URA Heritage Awards, Architizer Design Awards, ULI Asia Pacific Award and the LTA Transport Excellence Award. Notable award-winning projects include Tanjong Pagar Centre, JTC CleanTech 3, SingLand Tower AEI, Capitol Piazza redevelopment, Principal Garden, Rifle Range Nature Park and Haus on Handy.

Over the years, Mun Kit has honed his expertise and expanded his skill set beyond concept and detail design. While overseeing all design related aspects of the development, he collaborates with multiple stakeholders, authorities and consultants to ensure successful project implementation and execution. Currently, under his leadership, his projects include W Hotel and Residences @ Marina View, Harbour Front Centre Redevelopment, Clifford Centre Redevelopment,  the New Science Centre and Watten House. Today, he continues to impart architecture knowledge and nurture the next generation of architects through continued dialogue and collaboration as a guest tutor in the Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore.

Gieto has more than 30 years of experience in design, design development and overseeing a diversity of residential, commercial, institutional, recreational and transportation projects. Since joining architects 61 in 1990, his passion for design and expertise in design development and detailing has contributed greatly to transforming the company into one of the foremost corporate design firms in Singapore.

Leading one of our studios, Gieto and his team have won numerous limited design competitions, including the Changi Airport Terminal 1 Upgrading and The Baywater Collection at Sentosa Cove, and an international competition for Tai Nguyen's Master Plan in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He has also been involved in master planning projects overseas and Mass Rapid Transit station projects in Singapore.

Gieto was the lead designer for The Heeren lifestyle mall on Orchard Road, which won the BCA Best Buildable Design Award in 1998 and the 4th SIA Micro Design Award (Merit) in 2004; and Newton Gems condominium, which won the BCA Best Buildable Design Award in 2004.

Bringing a calm efficiency to every project, Serena’s expertise lies in Grade A office and mixed-use mega projects with complex urban design requirements. Since joining architects 61 in 2002, she has been responsible for key projects in Singapore’s Central Business District, among them Marina Bay Suites, a 66-storey luxury residential tower in the Marina Bay downtown area; Tanjong Pagar Centre, an integrated Grade A office, residential, hotel and retail development; and Ocean Financial Centre at Collyer Quay, a premium office tower and leading green development.

As a design studio team leader, Serena is currently overseeing a portfolio of projects in Singapore, including a Grade A office tower in downtown Marina Bay and a mixed-use development in Tanjong Pagar with a combined contract value exceeding S$1 billion. Serena is also part of the Senior Management team responsible for guiding overall business planning and strategy.

Wai Kay joined architects 61 in 1993 and has extensive project experience across all sectors, with a keen interest in conservation involving complex programming. She was involved in Fullerton Hotel/One Fullerton, which received the URA Architectural Heritage Award in 2001 and the inaugural President’s Design Award in 2006, and Capitol Development, which received the URA Architectural Heritage Award in 2016. Wai Kay is a co-team leader currently involved in the Changi Airport Terminal 5, Sentosa-Brani Master Planning and Cleantech Three projects.

Wai Kay believes in nurturing the next generation of architects through academia. She has been an examiner for the Singapore Board of Architects’ Professional Practice Examination from 2005 to 2007, and a part-time external tutor at the NUS Department of Architecture since 2014.

Wen Chuen joined architects 61 in 2003 and has extensive experience across various project types. She has completed multiple large-scale projects, seeing through the full project cycle from conception to completion. Wen Chuen is adept at leading the entire project team, from the in-house team to external consultants and stakeholders, to align all efforts effectively towards the project goals. She has invaluable experience in liaising with a wide range of corporate and public sector clients, with a strong commitment to delivering beyond expectations.

Wen Chuen currently co-heads one of our studios, demonstrating strong leadership in project delivery through creative problem-solving strategies, detailed knowledge of the various disciplines and the ability to engage all levels of stakeholders.

Monnica began her career at architects 61 in 2005, working on high-end residential developments such as the Orange Grove Road condominium, and Seascape condominium in Sentosa Cove.

Following her promotion to Associate in 2011. Monnica was involved in the Marina Bay Financial Centre Commercial Tower 3, a prestigious commercial address in the heart of the Marina Bay CBD, and the Early Learning Village, a world-class early-years educational facility for over 2,000 children.

Monnica is currently part of the team working on the landmark Changi Airport Terminal 5 project.

Sean joined architects 61 in 2010 and was responsible for delivering Ardmore Residence, a luxury high-rise condominium with a complex façade geometry. He has also worked on a variety of mixed use, residential and major retail upgrading projects at various stages, including schematic design, design development, contract administration and project delivery.

Sean is currently leading the design and delivery of Afro-Asia i-Mark, an office tower block in downtown Singapore; and Margaret Ville, a residential development in the western part of the island. He is also involved in various initiatives within the office, such as organising in-house design sharing sessions.
