Design Competition for Biolab Research Facility
The proposal is designed to be responsive to it clientele’s evolving needs. It will be the first user-centric BMS facility in Singapore, imbued with flexible design elements. It aims to inspire and engage occupants, and to draw its community closer through its lifestyle elements. The presence of renewed research institutes and provision of key supporting research services in the precinct is an attractive draw to BMS companies, presenting ample opportunities for collaboration between the public and private sectors.
To achieve our vision, we adopted a holistic design approach centered on 3 main focuses: User-focus, Environment- focus and Green-focus.
The proposal aspires to offer urbanites a place to work, play and live. It will feature a contemporary, innovative and sustainable design with places for scientists to gather, confer, and actively collaborate. The user-centred and functional facility is where creative groundbreaking ideas are inspired, and research and discovery can happen. Fourteen floors of hybrid flexible research and office space will feature approximately 35,000 sqm net area of lab friendly space as well as light-filled gathering places.
Complementary community amenities such as retail, food & beverage and other lifestyle provisions at the central plaza and through-block-link will further inject vibrancy and character, while the surrounding greenery will provide outdoor recreational and recharging spaces. Research lab spaces and their surroundings are therefore transformed into a vital and buzzing zone for interaction and integrated into the immediate urban ecosystem and beyond.
This new synergy involving the urban living present ample opportunities for the community to learn and grow together.
