A SMART CAMPUS
Our design tender proposal for the Singapore Institute of Technology campus is based around the concept of a ‘SMART’ campus – encompassing the principles of Simplicity and being Memorable, Artistic, Realistic and ingrained in Technology, to ultimately deliver an unrivalled learning experience.
The campus design encompasses teaching facilities, industry collaboration spaces, a central library, sports and recreational facilities, food courts, retail spaces and student housing. The buildings are designed so that their different functions can be clearly defined yet, as a whole, appear as an integrated family of cohesive parts.
At the heart of the master plan is a forested tropical park with spaces to promote community use and connectivity. Designed to feel at one with the landscape, campus buildings feature double-height spaces, cantilevered terraces, roof gardens and glass treatment to maximise daylight and views across the park.
A linear screen around the building provides shading and protection to the terraces and roof gardens, and an opportunity for integrated planters to further enhance the concept of a campus in the forest.
