MAXIMISING UNBUILT SPACE
Principal Garden is a sprawling residential development located in a quiet enclave along the Alexandra Canal, a recreational waterway at the heart of the city. The award-winning masterplan allows for unobstructed panoramic views of the Singapore Botanic Gardens and surrounding green areas dotted with low-rise bungalows, and of the city, whilst maximising unbuilt open space, a rarity in the urban density of Singapore.
A key feature is the 80/20 ratio, with open space occupying more than 80 percent of the development’s total land area, and built space occupying less than 20 percent. Four towers rise elevated from the grounds composed of recreational areas, pavilions, gardens and pools that permeate and flow through the towers and the development.
The towers’ north-south orientation is designed to take in the best views while minimising direct sun exposure. The raised environmental deck provides privacy while maintaining a visual connectivity and seamless transition to the adjacent Alexandra Canal.
The modern architecture is a combination of warm-gray walls and a generous use of glass. Terracotta-coloured frames add a unique character and emphasise the verticality of the architecture, balanced by the horizontality of the gardens and recreational facilities.
